How Often Should You Post on Social Media?

Here at Social Buzzing, we here this question a lot and it isn’t that easy to answer since there are many variables that come into play. Different social media platforms require different frequencies of posting to be effective just as different market niches appeal to different users. Posting too often will get you tuned out and not posting often enough won’t keep your audience engaged and they will leave.

 
Did that answer the question? Obviously not, but it may have scratched the surface. We recommend taking a conservative approach at first until you get better feel for what your audience responds best to. Once you start to see a positive response, you can make changes from their according to what you audience likes best.

 
As we mentioned earlier, different social media platforms require different approaches with the frequency of posting. Here are some posting frequency guidelines for the various social media that businesses use today:

 
Facebook: With Facebook, it is recommended that you post 3-5 posts per week, more if you customer base is responsive. Facebook is one of the social media giants that you can over post on and hurt your social media audience. If your fans appreciate frequent posting and you are running an event or specialized marketing campaign, go for it, but not more than once every three hours.

 
Twitter: Post as much as you want but make sure the tweets offer value. When starting out, take it easy and only post one or two tweets per day until you build a large audience.

 
LinkedIn: This is similar to Facebook in terms of recommended frequency for posting messages. This rule doesn’t apply if you are participating in groups that include your target audience, just be sure that you are providing value and not harassing people with blatant sales pitches.

 
YouTube: With YouTube, the rule used to be weekly. Now, with the advantages that video marketing offers, twice or more weekly is what you want. To streamline the process, you should shoot a month’s worth of footage and post one or two videos throughout the week until you have exhausted your supply.

 
Blogs: Blogs are very important to a business as they will offer readers a chance to better understand what the business does and it also gives the reader a more connected feel with the business itself. Once or twice a week is the best posting frequency for blogs to realize the best SEO benefit. Even if you have a lot to write about, space it out. Most blogs have a feature where you can post all of your articles in one day and have them drip fed over the course of weeks or months.

 
Just remember that the most important thing is that you do post and that you are consistent about it. Good content combined with consistency is the key to building a string social media audience for your business.
