Running a social media campaign is not an easy task. The updates that need to be sent out should be carefully planned and worded as not to cause any offence or be laughed at. At times, maintaining just one platform can become too overwhelming.

But marketing through social media shouldn’t have to be time consuming and stressful. To help you out, here are some productivity tips:

#1: Concentrate on platforms that produce the highest ROI

As much as you want to be an ALL the available social media platforms, let’s face it, you only need about one or two, maybe even three. Don’t burden yourself with too many accounts to manage, especially when some of them aren’t giving you anything in return. So take a good look at which platforms produce the highest ROI and stick with those.

#2: Make use of social media management tools

When you post multiple times in a single day, it helps not just your brand, but also your audience. We live in different time zones and you don’t want anyone to miss out on updates that might be useful for them. Visit a branded page and you will see that some of them do post their content more than once in a single day.

But this doesn’t mean that you have to log into Twitter or Facebook at every hour just to send out an update. There are schedulers such as Hootsuite and Buffer that can do that for you.

#3: Repurpose old posts

A social media post that got lots of engagement shouldn’t be left as is. Why not share it again? But this time, don’t use the same text for your update. Instead, come up with a completely different one. For example, you can post the update as a question this time or use a snippet of some text.

A couple of brands do this. For instance, late night talk shows that live tweet during an episode will share the content they tweeted then the morning after. This time, the text they share will be different. This is so those who have missed the show or have just woken up can catch up with what went on.

#4: Develop a system for curating and scheduling content

Not knowing what to share can take hours, hours which can be spent doing tasks more productive than thinking of what to tweet. So instead of wasting time, why not collect content you want to share along with your own content you want to share then decide on a schedule for them to be sent out.

For example, curate all the content you need for tomorrow or for the week. Before the end of the day, start plugging in the content to be shared into Buffer or any other scheduler. This way, more focus can be put on profit-making activities.

Businesses need social media these days. With the world becoming more digital, businesses need to embrace the power of the internet more. Yes, traditional marketing forms still work, especially in combination with digital trends, but a lot of people spend time online these days and running an effective and smooth campaign is key to getting noticed and engaged with your audience.

Truth be told, creating a social media calendar can be a bit restrictive given that the online world is always buzzing with content. But having a guide on what posts should go out today and what posts from the past can be shared on a specific day really helps, especially when everything gets busy.

When you’re still starting out, your best bet is to create a social media calendar for the first month. That way, you can get a feel of things and see where changes need to be made. From there, you can improve your strategy to suit your style.

Here’s some tips on creating a social media calendar:

Be aware of holidays, special events and such that are related to your business

Let’s say you run a bookstore. Being aware in advance of special holidays and events allows you to prepare for sales and other marketing related actions. Since these need to be promoted in advance, you can plot when you’re going to inform your audience about it and at what times. (Keep in mind that posting it just once wouldn’t help. In fact, it’s best to post updates at different times of the day so that audiences have a chance to see what you’ve been posted while they’ve been away from social media.)

Running a bookstore also means knowing the different authors whose books you sell. For example, you’ve written a blog post on what’s great about Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace and why it’s a must read. You can share that post on the author’s birthday or on the day the book got published.

Plot every post you will make

It doesn’t matter if you use Excel, Zoho or Google Drive. The main idea is to have a tool where you can list down the posts you’re sending out each month. It’s even best to plot the exact wording of the post. This way, it’s easier for your social media team to send out your updates.

A sample sheet could have the following columns: Date, Time (when it will be posted), Type of Content (is it a blog post, question for engagement purposes, an offer, infographic, etc) and the Content of the post (this is the actual message you’re sending out and include the link if you’re referring to an article).

It’s also important to vary your updates. What this means is that one may be a straightforward update while the next may come in the form of a question and another will be content from friends in the industry.

Use a scheduling tool

Buffer is one of the best scheduling tools in the market where you just tell the tool what time you want your posts sent and it will do the rest. This way, your social media team is free to do other online marketing efforts.

Having a social media calendar helps your business have a consistent presence on the web. While it may be restrictive at times, it’s a handy guide especially when the office gets busy. But it also helps to leave a little room for flexibility, particularly when there is a current event you can comment on.

We all use Facebook; many of us for business, and all of us for personal socializing with family and friends from all over the world. Do any of us really use Facebook to its full potential? The answer to that question is usually no. Many of us think we do and we often think that we know something no one else does, but one of our friends will end up using it before we get a chance to show off our social media prowess.

The best way to avoid that is to read this post and try out the following Facebook tips and tricks before anyone you know gets a chance to. We have listed many of the most requested tips and tricks of 2014 and these will give you a jumpstart on the New Year.

Appear Online Only to Selected Friends:

Facebook chat is a very useful, and sometimes annoying, feature that millions of people use every day. One of the main drawbacks of this feature is that when you are on the chat page, every one of your friends can see you and they might all want to chat at the same time. This could take up your entire day trying to be polite and chat with everyone when you really just wanted to talk to one or two people. To appear only to those people you want to chat with, go to “Chat” found at the lower right side of the page and click on the gear icon for settings and then click on advanced settings. A window would pop-up, now in the field which says “Turn on chat for all friends, except…” Now you can start adding your friends’ names, for whom you don’t want to appear online. You now appear completely invisible to them and you can chat with only the ones you want to without seeming rude to those that you don’t.

Magic Circles on Facebook:

This is a really simple trick that a lot of people have a hard time performing. You can make magic circles appear on your page with this one and it only takes a few easy steps. Here’s how: Press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Enter key then press up & down. In case it doesn’t work the first time you try it, reload the page again by pressing F5 and repeat the process.

Use Facebook search like a pro:

Forget the struggles of searching endlessly on Facebook for your current friends; if you have thousands, it could take all day. Facebook has a very little used Search Box that is a powerful tool to help you find your old friends, celebrities, organizations or your favorite band quickly and easily no difficulty.

Facebook flip status updates:

For some added fun, try flipping your FB status upside down. Your friends and family will be tilting their heads trying to read your message and asking you how you did it. To do it, just go to the website www.fliptext.org. In the upper field, type the status that you want to update and then click on Flip Text button. Now in the lower field you will see the flipped text of your status and you can now just copy and paste it into your Facebook status.

Changing fonts on Facebook status:

By default your status update have only one font, but you can always use 3rd party service to change the font of your status update. Look for third party websites that will enable you to change the font for all of your Facebook status updates.

Having a LinkedIn profile is an industry standard in today’s business world as it can be used to network, meet new business associates and even bring in some extra sales that you wouldn’t have seen without this powerhouse of a social media site. Have you taken a look at your LinkedIn profile? Is it working hard for you or just sitting there unread and undiscovered? We have decided to provide some tips that can help you get the most out of your LinkedIn profile with very little time and effort.

You can list and customize up to three websites on your profile. Here’s how!

Log into LinkedIn account

Select the “Profile” button from the options listed horizontally across the top of the screen

Select “Edit Profile” from the dropdown screen

Find the “Websites” section – most will have the default to ‘Company Website’

Select “Edit” on the right-hand side of the first website

Select “Other” then create a customized name of the company website followed by the link to the website. Example for other website titles: “Successful Financial Planning Guide” or “Why You Need a Business Lawyer”

Select “Save” and do the same for the other two websites; ideas for other sites: your fan page, blog, or affiliate site(s)

You can customize your public profile tab! Here’s how!

Log into LinkedIn account

Select the “Profile” button from the options listed horizontally across the top of the screen

Select “Edit Profile” from the dropdown screen

Scroll to the area that reads “Public Profile” and select “Edit” to the right of it

This will open a new screen with options. Search for “Your Public Profile URL” about half-way down the page on the right-hand side

Select “Customize Public Profile URL”

Add what you want your public profile to read.

Remember to save after choosing the name

Use that link for email signatures, business cards, brochures, etc.

You can export your LinkedIn connections! Here’s how!

Log into LinkedIn account

Select the “Contacts” button from the options listed horizontally across the top of the screen

Scroll to the bottom right-hand side of the screen which will have three buttons: Outstanding Connections, Sent Invitations, and Export Connections

Select “Export Connections”

This will default to a CSV file (a version of excel); can change this type, if you wish

Simply download the file to your desktop or another folder

With the above tips, you can get the most out of your LinkedIn profile and enjoy the benefits that LinkedIn offers today’s small businesses.
