A thriving entrepreneur returned to her roots this week to inspire present pupils at her old school to follow in her footsteps. Vanessa Whitaker is the Founder and Director of Social Buzzing, a social media management service that has blossomed in the short time since it was founded – now Ms Whitaker has headed back to the Queen’s School, Cheshire, to show current students that success does not necessarily have a defined route.

Social Buzzing was founded in 2012 with a fresh focus on boosting the online presence of business across the country using social media platforms. Ms Whitaker had recently graduated university and was becoming disillusioned with the jobs market, which was catered towards experienced professionals rather than bright, qualified graduates. She took the plunge and founded Social Buzzing, and the business has gone from strength to strength, with big-name clients across the country and two offices, in Chester and London. Now in a special talk with pupils of her alma mater, Ms Whitaker has encouraged young people to broaden their minds and keep their options open when it comes to stepping into the world of work.

Ms Whitaker says, “It was a very proud moment for me, returning to the Queen’s School – working to inspire younger people has always been important to me, and I think that it’s important for children to understand that there is no direct route to success in business. My message to youngsters is that there are so many options out there for those who are motivated and driven, and starting up a business is a totally viable way to forge a career if the jobs market is not catering to your needs.”

In an effort to further support the youth of today as they take the first steps in their career, Social Buzzing also offers a number of internships and graduate placements, to offer younger people that crucial experience to add to their CV. The beauty of social media is that work can be carried out remotely, and Social Buzzing offers students and graduates all over the country the chance to be involved with their service.

Ms Whitaker adds, “It was always important to me that Social Buzzing be the kind of organisation to take chances on younger people. Students and graduates are often the most hardworking, intuitive and dedicated employees a business will have, and their forward-thinking approach has certainly helped drive us forwards at Social Buzzing. Whether I’m talking to younger students at my old school, or offering placement to recent graduates as they take their first steps up the career ladder, myself and the rest of the team at Social Buzzing are committed to giving talented young people a chance to forge their own path.”
